Description

**Bert is part of a private collection and is not for sale.**

Mattel's 2008 Bert doll is the foundation for Jolly Holiday Bert. Of the two, Bert needed the least amount of work.

Body:

All factory paint was removed from doll including hair paint. Bert was repainted with artist quality acrylic paints in the likeness of Dick van Dyke using screencaps from the movie as reference. Paint was sealed with quality varish.

Fingers were scored apart and soaked in boiling water to make flexible enough to bend with help of pliers. Fingers were sanded when cooled to removed jagged edges.

Hat:

The flimsy, fisherman's looking hat was used as a mold for the new hat. The hat was constructed over the original using a faux straw place mat. Interior is lined with felt so that it will sit securely on the head. Mulit-colored band was apart of original product. Stitching was removed and band resized to fit new hat.

Gloves:

Original gloves were nothing more than mittens. New gloves were constructed from a pair of children's tights by first making into wider mittens. Once the mittens were placed on the hands the fingers were stitched using the doll's fingers as guides.

Cane:

Originally white, cane was repainted with artist quality acrylic paints to closer resemble Dick van Dyke's prop in the movie. Sealed with quality varnish. Bert can hold cane on his own.

Shirt:

Gold beads were used to create the cuff links.

Jacket:

Pocket square made using a remenant of the 2008 Mary Poppins' doll dress.

Socks:

Originally a pale blue, socks were dyed with watercolor paint to make them the same shade of turquoise of Dick van Dyke's socks in the movie.

Shoes:

Originally, a plain white loafer, shoes were sculpted with fabric, paint, and glue to create a lace-up shoes similiar to the shoes in the movie. Soles were painted with acrylic paint and sealed in satin finish varnish. Top of shoes sealed in gloss varnish.

I am very pleased with the way this turned out, especially considering how little experience I have in custom dolls.
