My entry for :icondisneydreamers: and :icondisney-parkhoppers: Souvenir Project [link]

Shirts, it seems, is the dominant theme in this project based on what's been submitted thus far. I have a theory on this: It's bloody hard to find clothing with your fav characters on it that isn't made for little kids. I searched all over for a decent Ariel shirt (I saw Hot Topics TLM shirts but I thought they were poor quality for the price and I wasn't much impressed witht he art anyway). I ended up getting an Ariel shirt from Target... from the girls section... the extra large fit surprisingly... sadly?? :lmao:

I know the Disney Store does/ has sold PotC shirts because I've seen them on ebay... but our lousy Disney Stores around here have next to nothing it seems in the stuff I'm interested (where's all the TLM stuff is what I want to know!! :shakefish:). But I solved my problem by making my own shirt.

About My Shirt

The graphics were designed using PhotoImpact X3 and GIMP. I'm only posting the end products and not the graphics; this way I figured it'd be harder for someone to try to use the design for their own transfers (sorry!). This is intended to be one of a kind. However, if dA admins have any concerns regarding the originality of the shirts design, I am more than happy to provide with private links to my design.

For the red shirt I ended up having to almost completely paint the graphics myself because I purposely used the transfer paper for light colored material and the design was way too light. The only areas I didn't have to repaint were the black areas; I merely enhanced them with a black fabric pen.

The gray shirt is the tranfer only. I didn't use any fabric paint on it so that it would have a vintage-y feel to it. Although I may have to go over the Jack Sparrow name on the sleeve because the transfer is a tad messed up there.

Resources: PotC screencaps for reference and clipart from one of the clipart CDs I have. I love Jack Sparrow is based directly on the Disney pin. Fabric paint and pens also used to embelish and enhance shirt.

PotC belongs Disney.;)

"What the Black Pearl REALLY is...."

These are awesome!!

Lucky you for finding an Ariel shirt! I have that SAME problem--the cute ones (and only Ariel ones, really) were for toddlers. Now my Eeyore shirts, though....there's lots of those, thank goodness! Someone finally asked me if I owned any clothing that WASN'T Disney. I knew it was coming.

Anyway, love these! Especially the little Disney skull and crossbones on the back!

Thanks!

It makes sense to me that Eeyore is on clothing for college kids and adults because who doesn't love Eeyore? He's really popular. It'd be nice to see him joined by the other popular characters and the Disney princesses. I see a lot of seven Dwarves stuff, particularly Grumpy. I can't say I know anyone who is a Grumpy fan. I know a lot of Dopey fans (myself included) but I rarely see him on anything. Or maybe I just don't understand marketing strategies.

I've always made up for the lack of Ariel shirts with Ariel earrings and necklaces that I've made. And my nails have had Ariel on them. No obsession here... :lmao:

lol--I was like about Eeyore before they started making stuff with him on it. I remember when all they had was the standard plush! (Which was actually my first item a LONG time ago!)

They definitely need to add more adult princess wear! Every time I go in there, there's tons of cute kiddie shirts I want to raid....a friend suggested making pillows out of the kids' shirts--which I haven't started, because I knew I'd end up with dozens of them! But this past year they brought out a pretty good bit of princess adult stuff (minus Ariel, naturally) so maybe they'll be adding more. One can only hope!

To me it seems like Disney promotes the less popular princesses over the popular ones at least where I live. Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderalla are all you see here. Cinderella would probably be the exception, I know she's fairly popular. Most kids I ask say their favorite princesses are Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine. But good luck finding anything of just them. Usually Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora come with them.

I'm with you the pillow thing. I had planned on making pillows out of fave shirts I no longer wear until I realized how many shirts I had!

'Course you could always make your own shirt. ;)
